1. Home Charging Is Essential
You absolutely need a home charger. Public charging is fine for road trips, but daily reliance on Superchargers is inconvenient and expensive. Budget $500-1,500 for a home charging setup.
2. Insurance Is More Expensive
Tesla insurance costs 20-40% more than comparable gas SUVs. Shop around aggressively. Tesla’s own insurance program can save you money in some states.
3. The Learning Curve Is Real
Everything is different. No start button, regenerative braking feels weird at first, and the touchscreen controls everything. Give yourself 2 weeks to fully adjust.
4. Software Updates Change Your Car
Your car literally changes overnight. New features appear, the interface changes, and sometimes things you liked get moved. It’s mostly great, but occasionally frustrating.
5. You’ll Never Want a Gas Car Again
This is the biggest thing nobody warns you about. Once you experience instant torque, silent driving, and never stopping at gas stations, gas cars feel ancient.
